Who Is Eligible for Benefits?

If you’re an employee working 30 hours or more per week, you and your dependents are eligible for benefits on your date of hire.

Eligible dependents include:

  • Your legal spouse or qualified domestic partner
  • Your children up to age 26 (including your spouse’s or domestic partner’s children)
  • Your child who is required to be covered under your health coverage by a qualified medical child support order (QMCSO)
  • Your unmarried physically or mentally disabled child of any age (if disabled prior to age 26)

What if I Need to Make Changes?

The choices you make when you first become eligible are in effect for the remainder of the plan year. Once you are enrolled, you must wait until the next Annual Enrollment period to change your benefits or add/remove coverage for dependents, unless you have a qualified life event as defined by the IRS.

Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Change in marital or domestic partnership status
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Change in work status that affects your benefits eligibility
  • Change in your children’s eligibility
  • Change in eligibility for Medicaid or Medicare


Note:
You have 30 days from the date of the life event to make changes to your coverage. Mid-year changes are effective the first of the month following submission of all required documentation.
